Hiwasa Hachimangu (日和佐八幡神社) is a Shinto shrine located at Hiwasaura 369, Minami Town (Minami-cho), Kaifu District, Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. The shrine sits by the famous Ohama Beach (大浜海岸), one of Japan’s most renowned nesting sites for loggerhead sea turtles (アカウミガメ, Caretta caretta). The shrine is best known for its spectacular autumn festival, during which eight “chousa” (ちょうさ, large ornate portable drum floats) are paraded and carried down onto Ohama Beach in a powerful display described as the grandest of its kind in Tokushima Prefecture.
