Overview

Shirahige Shrine (白髭神社, Shirahige Jinja) in Higashi-Yotsugi, Katsushika-ku, Tokyo, is also known historically as Maroudo Daigongen (客人大権現 — “Guest Great Gongen”), a title reflecting its ancient role as a shrine welcoming travellers and offering divine guidance. It is one of several Shirahige shrines in the Kanto region and is distinct from the famous Shirahige Shrine on the shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture.

Enshrined Kami & Blessings

Three kami are enshrined together:

  • 猿田彦命 (Sarutahiko-no-Mikoto) — the guiding kami of direction and safe journeys
  • 大己貴命 (Ōnamuji-no-Mikoto / Ōkuninushi) — binding relationships, healing, en-musubi
  • 建御名方命 (Takeminakata-no-Mikoto) — strength, victory, sports

As Maroudo Daigongen, the traditional blessings are: 商売繁盛 (business prosperity), 諸人愛敬 (social grace and likability), 技芸上達 (mastery of arts and skills), and 夫婦和合 (marital harmony).
